Every year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrates the Week of the Young Child (WOTYC) in April. This year, the WOYTC celebration is April 12-16, 2021 and it’s also the 50th Anniversary.
We’re excited to celebrate Week of the Young Child within our Head Start program. Our Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms throughout Williamson and Burnet Counties serve hundreds of children and their families every year, providing an opportunity for all children to succeed in school and in life. WOTYC allows us to celebrate all that we teach our young children in Head Start, whether it be music, art, health and wellness, or academics.
What Is WOYC?
The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 51 Affiliates.
The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The Week of the Young Child is a time to plan how we—as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation—will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
