Leadership Georgetown Creates Holiday Cards and Ornaments for Senior Neighbors

Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties’ Director of Development, Lauren McAndrews, and the Madella Hilliard Senior Center Site Director, Kelsey Ward, visited the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce last week to meet with the Leadership Georgetown group.

In the beginning of the meeting, we were given time to speak about our Meals on Wheels program, with a focus on the clients we serve from our Madella Hilliard Senior Center in Georgetown. After Lauren and Kelsey provided a background on what Meals on Wheels does and who we serve, there was time for the members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Georgetown group to complete an art activity that would benefit our seniors. After providing the materials, we asked Chamber members to work on holiday cards and homemade ornaments that we could later distribute to our senior Meals on Wheels clients in Georgetown.

We are so grateful that the chamber and Leadership Georgetown helped create these holiday cards and ornaments for our senior neighbors, who during this year, have been more isolated than ever before.

Madella Hilliard’s site director, Kelsey, commented, “We wanted to make these ornaments to help our seniors feel special, and let them know that other members of the community, not just Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers, are thinking of them during this holiday season. This year has been really tough on some of our seniors, and I can’t imagine how it’s going to be for them going into a quarantined holiday season. I hope these ornaments bring more than just a smile of their face.”
