Sun City’s WHO Ladies Launch 9th Annual Fundraiser for Meals on Wheels

The WHO Ladies of Sun City volunteer at multiple OWBC fundraisers a year, primarily to raise funds for Meals on Wheels.

Now more than ever, Opportunities’ Meals on Wheels (MOW) program is in need of community support. Women Helping Others (WHO), or as we call them–the WHO Ladies of Sun City, are hosting their 9th Annual Fundraiser for Opportunities’ Meals on Wheels program. The fundraiser begins July 31st and will run until September 15th.

This year, the goal is to raise $50,000. St. David’s Foundation will match up to $15,000. Funds raised will benefit Sun City and Georgetown Meals on Wheels clients.

How did the WHO Fundraiser begin?

In 2012, Opportunities’ Meals on Wheels program was in a financial crisis and needed to create a waiting list for prospective clients. Over twenty senior neighbors from Sun City were on this list. Women Helping Others rallied and hosted a fundraiser to help out during this time of need. This first fundraiser raised $25,000. Afterwards, WHO’s Meals on Wheels fundraiser became an annual event.

What does Meals on Wheels do?

Meals on Wheels provides nutritious noon-time meals, Monday through Friday, for seniors in need. Some of our senior neighbors attend congregate meals and have lunch with fellow seniors. Many other seniors are home bound and require meal delivery, which allows these seniors to live independently as long as possible. These meal deliveries also serve as wellness checks for our clients, who often are isolated and on their own.

How can I give to these senior neighbors?

You can give by check or by donating online. Any amount helps a senior in need!

  • Checks can be made payable to OWBC Meals on Wheels. Please write “WHO Fundraiser” in the memo. (Mail to: 604 High Tech Dr., Georgetown, TX 78626)
